You will want good quality benders like one from Rigid or MasterCool when working with 3/8" steel tube. The green coated tubing is tough but should be sanded before flaring so the flare seals properly. Everything rusts here and brake lines are no exception. Unfortunately folks here in the northeast learn to form brake lines shortly after graduating from diapers. Be sure you have plenty of support for the lines if you choose this tubing. Note that you will want to ensure you can connect to the front end of the cooler lines when you are finished so ensure your radiator has or will accept the correct matching fittings. There are brass versions available in a number of places including ebay and this. The front (IIRC) fitting for the 4L80E will fit the 4L60E but they're a little harder to find.

In 1991 the 4L80E was released with 3/8" cooler lines as well. The 700R4 generally needed more cooling and GM switched many of those vehicles to 3/8" cooler lines. Delco 8637742 is a good replacement for this part. The transmission cooler line fittings for most transmissions up to the '80s used 1/4" X 18 pipe thread X 5/16" inverted flare fittings. Surely things didn't change btwn '90 and '91 in terms of the fitting size on these trans? the same part number from Dorman says it will work on a '90 model? have i come across a 'white buffalo'? or am just not as astute in finding parts online as i thought? goes back in the transmission but is used to lubricate the rear case bushing, the sun gears/planetaries, the sprags. the transmission oil cooler flow comes off the pump. Its at this point I begin to doubt myself and my memory and set to research where to find the ID number for my trans, and find the number above, identifying as a '90 model, 700r4 (has the rainbow / casting defect at the connections do things are lining up so that's good.) the transmission oil cooler lines must NOT be KINKED. They come in the courier and alas, too big again? get the fittings, and they are too large?! ok, i return those and go teh stock OE replacement route and order OE replacement lines for a '91 2wd Chevy 1/2 ton 700r4. originally i had in my mind that this was from a '91, but its not.Īnyway i went about ordering fittings from my parts guy who looks up my trans (no a big chain, local shop, never let me down type thing) to make my own cooler lines (aux cooler to be mounted in front of my stock rebuilt rad). through some research I've found that my trans is a '90 model MD-8 case (0CHM166B). My issue right now is the transmission cooler lines from my 700r4. I'm to the point where i have a rolling chassis, trans and motor set (still some work to do to get my angles right, but thats another thread). Very little bending to get into place.I have been making modest progress on the '56 GMC, not breaking any records, just nice and slow as the $$$ allows.

Steve Fraley from Ashland, KY United States Overall they worked out and easier than making my own lines. Because the 200-4R has reversed pressure and return ports compared to a 700r4 these lines needed some tweaking to fit.
